Bio Textile

I cultured and tested a cellulose fungi-bacterial bio textile as part of a Clothing Innovations course at the university of Lapland 2013. Since then i have utilized it in my textile art and in my BA collection Mutabu. By this research I wanted to explore biomimicry and utilization of biological components in clothing. This material behaves like a thin vegetable leather, increases in durability when soaked and reacts to heat. It is compostable without toxic finishes and can be part of a circular system of clothing production. I have only scratched the surface of the possibilities of cultured bio textiles and I am interested to continue exploring.
